Is turning down therapy equipment because the prognosis that the doctor doesnt know much about is “bad”?

We wanted therapy equipment for my son who has menkes disease and the doctor the therapists asked to write for it said no because from what she has read the prognosis wasn’t good and basically he will die too soon to get enough use out of it… there is currently a 10 year old with this disease 11 in january… what can i do?
